The company was founded in 1997 by John Sirabella and Sam Liebowitz and deals with licensing, translating and releasing Japanese anime, movie and manga productions to the North American market, including the Bible Black series through its subsidiary Kitty Media, responsible for Media Blasters' adult (pornographic) hentai anime releases.
Kitty Media was acquired by the American hentai manga distributor FAKKU in november 2017.
Some of Media Blasters' other well known labels include Animeworks, specializing in Japanese animation, Tokyo Shock, specializing in Asian film, and Shriek Show, specializing in horror.
